The way the man led the boy engendered suspicion: his erotic caper, his libidinal prance, his Pied-Piper jig past the supermarket, his triumphant indifference to all passers-by, his sheer precoital elation - as the poor ignorant child followed blankly on the end of the rope.
Closer, however, you could see you were mistaken.
It was the boy who held the leash, while the old man blundered at its length, mad beyond malice.
